Well, can finally check this one off the list. After waffling on if we wanted to battle the crowds of thousands of people per day we made the decision to make the trek up to the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. Melinda and I decided to make a weekend of it and hit Tettegouche State Park on the north shore of Lake Superior first.
The spray from a series of storms had created quite the ice display.
A few shots showing an ice flow working it's way the south with Palisade Head in the back ground to the north towards Shovel Point.
Working our way along the cliffs towards the mouth of the Baptism River.
Some of the ice had come off the bigger trees near the shore with the strong late winter sun but the smaller trees and brush was still encased in thick ice.
A lot of people can say they have been up highway 61 along the north shore. Ever been under it? In order to get into the backcountry areas of the park you need to take a road which goes back under the highway. Kind of a cool view.
It was a great day and a good warm up for our hike the next day out to the ice caves.
