40° in January in MN? First robin of 2008!

Kids were gone for a few hours today so took the opportunity to hike up the Mississippi River to just below the Monticello nuke plant. Always have wondered if they have hidden surveillance cams after 9-11 up there? Maybe they have secret specially trained anti terrorist squirrels or something...lol.
Anyhow, back to the topic at hand. Was hoping to see an eagle or hawk. Did mark two new eagles nests on the GPS to go back and check out this spring. No eagles but a gazillion people and all kinds of critters. The most interesting thing to me (because I enjoy fly fishing for trout) was how many people were fly fishing for small mouth bass. One fisherman (and one fisherchick) every hundred yards or so. Every one I talked to was just thrilled to be fishing in January. Oh yeah. Saw the first robin of 2008. Not a big deal since some never leave but still got me thinking ahead to spring with the air temp near 40°!!
