Shhhhh...secret spot

What started out as a lazy afternoon photographing eagles changed with a call from my regular chase partner, David Drufke, saying he would meet up with me. Once he drove out to where I was, he said "you gotta see this spot".

Juvenile bald eagle while waiting for Dave.

Red tail leaps out of a tree. This was shot looking out the window of Dave's car as drove over to this area he wanted to show me.

Same redtail hawk making it's departure.

I'm not going into detail as to the location but this is one of the sweetest spots I have ever seen for shooting (photography) for deer. These deer are totally wild. No fence, no barricade to limit where they can go. Waiting for a good snowfall to head back.

No shortage of bucks. Guessing these two were 3.5 and 2.5 years old. We saw as many as four at one time. There was one MONSTER which I could not get to for a photo but I'll be back to try again soon.

Yes, I think the deer was mocking me knowing he was safe.
I've never had a deer stick it's tongue out me before. Weird.

The bucks are heading quickly towards post rut as was evidenced by seeing them grouped and and were not all that interesting in chasing the does around. Once we can get a few inches of fresh snow and a bright, sunny day, we'll be heading back to see what we can find.

Love the tongue sticking out. In the Rocky Mountain National Park a few years ago, I ended up getting a shot of an elk doing that. The deer didn't seem too conserned with you. How far away were you?

Maybe 40-50 yards through the trees. This has been MAJORLY cropped and was shot with a 200mm lens with a 2x teleconverter also.

hmmm, that sure looks like that place I used to go to when I lived in the cities along the river. But no worries, that place is huge. Neva and I were chasing some deer on the road last spring. Ok, more like following them as they walked down the road in the park.
